A North Bethesda, Maryland client came to us with a wish list for their basement renovation project. First, they wanted to increase the livable space in their home by creating a functional and fun lower-level recreation area. Second, they needed a new bedroom suite for guests. Third, the family desired a media area where they could all hang out together. Fourth, the existing outdated bathroom needed a complete overhaul. Finally, and most importantly, they wanted a light-filled, inviting space instead of the dark, dank basement they rarely used.
In order to give this family all that they desired, our Meridian Homes team completely renovated their basement. We began by installing a new drainage system inside the walls, which now moves water that was previously entering the basement to a new sump pump, where it exits the house. Then, in order to create the light-filled space our clients wanted, we added three window wells to let in the sun: two window wells are in the new recreation room, and one is in the new bedroom suite. We also installed ample new lighting throughout the basement to create comfort and ambiance.
Beautiful hand-scraped, 5-inch, engineered hickory wood floors tie together all areas of the renovated basement. The relocated bathroom now allows access from the brand-new bedroom suite and from the family’s recreation area. A glass wall of deco tiles and a shower floor made of foot-massaging pebbles create a spa-like feel in the beautiful new bathroom. The media area is now complete with 5:1 surround sound and an over-sized flat screen LED television to make family movie nights fun. Our Meridian Homes team made every wish on the list come true, and our clients now have the basement of their dreams!
